The Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art
409 East College Boulevard, Roswell, NM 88201
The Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art
opened its doors in Roswell, New Mexico, in 1994 to showcase works of art produced by
alumni of the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program.
Today, more than 300 diverse works of art enliven its seven galleries and 17,000 square feet
of exhibition space.
Dedicated to the work produced at the Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program,
AMoCA has
become a source of knowledge and inspiration about contemporary visual art for the Roswell
region, New Mexico and the Nation. This unique collection of photographs, paintings, prints,
drawings and sculpture provides a snapshot of the evolving issues in art over the last 37
years. Works range from figurative to non-objective and showcase the diversity of the
Roswell Artist-in-Residence Program. Few other museums provide a similar focus on
contemporary visual art with such an eclectic range of form and content.
The Anderson Museum of Contemporary Art boasts a large collection of public art works by
Luis
Jimenez. These larger-than-life fiberglass sculptures are at home in the roomy galleries
as are paintings by Stu Arends, Scott Greene, Joshua Rose, Cristina Gonzalez, James
McGarrell, Linda Mieko Allen, Milton Resnick, William Goodman, Diane Marsh, Phillis Ideal
and David Reed. Ceramic sculpture by Eddie Dominguez and golf bag sharks by Robbie
Barber feel as comfortable at AMoCA as do new-media pieces by Julia
Couzens, Jerry Bleem,
Kumi Yamashita, Eric Snell and Al Souza. Works by photographers Shana & Robert ParkeHarrison,
Dore Gardner and Ted Kuykendall are also part of this remarkable collection.
Over the years the Museum has become a treasured resource for Roswell and the
surrounding community. Its comfortable furnishings and catering kitchen make AMoCA an
ideal place for social events as well as for viewing its art. It has gradually evolved into the
place of choice for community events. Civic, charitable, and arts-related organizations use
AMoCA's spacious galleries to host fundraising dinners, concerts, meetings and workshops
of all kinds.
THE ROSWELL ARTIST-IN-RESIDENCE PROGRAM
The Roswell Artist-in-Residence (RAiR) Program was conceived by businessman and
artist Donald B. Anderson in 1967. His vision was to enhance the cultural environment of
Roswell and southeastern New Mexico by bringing artists of national importance to live and
work in the tranquility of the high plains. The Program developed into a fully operational
facility accommodating five artists year round and providing them ample living spaces,
studios, and monthly stipends for one year. The Roswell Artist-in-Residence Foundation is a
501(c)3 non-profit organization dedicated to the RAIR Program and the Anderson Museum.
Through its collection, publications, educational services, and community partnerships,
AMoCA provides students, artists, creative and critical thinkers, scholars, lay audiences and
anyone interested in the visual arts a rich resource for enjoyment and research at all levels. To
